Come home to history! Dalnavert, a premier of Manitoba and the son of John A. Macdonald, is the former home of Sir Hugh John Macdonald, late Victorian residence, a beautifully restored, Canada's first prime minister. Designed to embody Victorian values, indoor plumbing, including central heat, Dalnavert also incorporated the cutting-edge technology of 1895, a telephone and electric lights. Named after the family's ancestral home in Scotland, Dalnavert is one of Western Canada's finest examples of Queen Anne Revival Architecture and has been designated a National and Provincial Historic Site. Continuing that theme, 000 square foot Visitors' Centre is a "green building" utilizing features such as geothermal heat, the new 5, recycled/reclaimed materials and straw board construction.
